It's about time.

The Herald Sun has reported: "Asylum-seekers will no longer be charged for their upkeep when locked up in Australia's detention centres under a new law passed today."

How this was ever allowed to happen in the first place ... seriously - what kind of bastard would you have to be to charge asylum-seekers for the privilege of locking them up in what amounts to a private prison?

ETA - on a more frivolous note, I just ordered the Anthony Andrews version of The Scarlet Pimpernel on DVD from Amazon (thanks to andricongirl for making me remember by mentioning Brideshead Revisited!). Whee! They seek him here, they seek him there ... soon I'll be seeking him in my mailbox :D :D :D
