Random thoughts on Supernatural.

After 9 episodes of Season One.

1. Jenson Ackles and Dean Winchester don't really look alike.
2. Based on what I'd heard of the characters before watching the show, I'd always assumed that Jared Padalecki played the character with the car & the taste for metal. He always looked more the part than Ackles.
3. I found it kinda odd that, for guys whose father is missing, they don't actually spend much time looking for him. They mention his disappearance from time to time, but it's like, "Dad's missing. Wanna go hunt evil?"
4. I don't actually like being scared. I have to not look at the screen a lot.
5. It reminds me of The X-Files a bit.
6. I don't see the Wincest.
7. Jeffrey Dean Morgan doesn't look old enough to be their dad.
8. I don't mind it, though. I'm sticking with it.

1. Weird how that happens. But yeah. :) Their voices are different, too...
2. Heh. JA totally sells it though, don't you think?
3. *giggle* No scrutinising with an extreme scrute! Besides, there's always people to be saved, things to be hunted. ;) They're work-conscientious!
4. I have to admit, it in turns amuses and bemuses me that so many folk find that with it. While I think it's a very good television horror show, I've never actually thought much of it was terribly scary, but there certainly seems to be a lot of folk who do. Which maybe points to there being soomit wrong with me and not you lot. :D Fwiw, the one thing that has scared the willies out of me the absolute most on SPN (I'm talking full-on, looking over my shoulder to check there's no boogeyman behind me, even while watching in the middle of the afternoon type dealio here) was simply a reaction shot. :) Samantha Smith's (Mary) reaction shot in the Pilot, that is, when she sees John asleep in front of the telly and that LOOK on her face as she realises somebody is in Sam's nursery - *shiver*. I'm serious, that completely unnerves me. Okay, so I'm weird. :)
5. *nods* It is very much the X-Files' bouncing baby boy. Kim Manners was largely responsible for the look and visual atmosphere of both shows (he went into semi-retirement after X-F, but was lured out when, as he put it, he fell in love with Sam and Dean). Also of course - Vancouver. :) Many places look kind of familiar from X-F because, well, they are! :D
6. Hehehe... Even without the wincest, as Head Writer Sera Gamble once famously described it, it's all about "the epic love story of Sam and Dean". In my own personal canon wot exists in my brain, they don't become lovers until the second series anyhow. :P
7. Yeah, he's only 12 years older than Jensen. He does play older than his actual age though, I've always thought. 'Tis all about the look though - beautiful casting, really...
8. Cool. :) I've always maintained that s2 is the one with which they produced as close to a perfect 22-ep series of genre TV as is humanly possible, it's just that we have to get through s1 first to get there. :D

Thanks for giving it a red hot try!
So I posted the reply below the *** last night, but accidentally posted it as a reply to my own post, instead of your comment. I've been doing that a lot, lately. I only noticed because I came here to comment again, saying: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! GODDAMN CLIFFHANGERS!!! NOW I NEED SEASON 2!!!

****************************
2. He does sell it. I was quite struck by the difference, though.
3. XD I'm letting it slide.
4. I really don't like or watch horror. My imagination is waaaay overactive. The X-Files is probably about as horror as I've ever got - and I used to watch it the way I'm watching Supernatural ... suddenly getting immersed in a game of Bejewelled on the laptop when it looks like something horrible or scary is going to happen.
5. I noticed SPN shares an Executive Producer with Chuck! His name is McG. Also, saw that Robert Duncan McNeil (who was originally known as Tom Paris on Star Trek: Voyager) directed at least one ep - he's an Exec Prod & director for Chuck, too.
6. Heh. I guess I'll have to hang on until Season 2 to see, then.

*evol laff* Heh, I just an hour ago finished watching the s4 finale. I died about a million times! :D

Any possibility of you swinging by the Terminus this evening? (can't remember if you said on Monday if you were doing soomit tonight) Cos if you can, I can totally hook you up. *she said, feeling every inch the pusher* :)
cliffhangers are so evil.

unfortunately, no can do tonight - i have a friend coming over for dinner :(

I second your cliffhanger exclamation.
You look at the time, assess the storyline, look back at the time, "Noooooo, there's not enough time to adequately resolve this storyline!!!!!!"

Just found Neil deGrasse Tyson on Twitter. This may just be the clincher to a sign up.

PS: It's Singapore instead of Sydney now. No cloning required. I'm taking 3 days R&R after the work I have to do. Hopefully I can finally banish this bug by some lazing on a beach.
Wow! Enjoy your RnR!
Thanks. I'm used to being away for work without my Husband, but it's the first time I'll be R&R'ing without him since we met. He's my travel buddy, scooter driver, make sure drinks keep on a coming, man that carries heavy things. It will be very strange.
