Back at work today, felt like I'd taken enough time off (went home sick lunch time last Wednesday, and it's now Tuesday morning.) So far I've been told that I look terribly pale, sound terrible, and that I'm an idiot and should have stayed home. Considering that I wanted to take a nap on the walk up from the tram, I think they may be on to something. Still, I'm here now, so I might as well see how I go.

Just been reading the news online, and ran across last week's comments over the blackface incident on That Stupid Show I Can't Believe They're Trying To Bring Back. Honestly, it just makes me weep - and want to shake people until their brains rattle in their skulls. Why can't people understand that just because (a) you don't mean to be offensive, and/or (b) just because *you* aren't offended, doesn't mean that by speech or act you aren't offensive. Why can't people accept that they have upset someone, and just say, "Oops. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend", instead of all of this ridiculous and selfish justification? Instead, what we get is a bunch of privileged gits, sneering dismissively at another's pain and basically saying, "Get over yourselves. My "right" to entertainment is WAY more important than your right to equality, or respect as a human being." ARGH.

Also, the idea that the performers obviously weren't being racist because they have ethnic backgrounds??? Since when was racism only ever exhibited by white people? We may have it down to a fine art, but it surely flourishes amongst other skin colours, too. Rwanda, anyone?

Well. I just needed to get that off my chest.
