gold star well done

Here's how it's done.

Many of you will have read about the foul displays of sexism in Australia this week, especially with respect to our female Prime Minister. It's been a thoroughly appalling, disheartening week for women. A new scandal has broken out in the Australian Army, too - thoroughly deplorable behaviour is being uncovered. However, while our mainstream media seems to be having a hard time doing anything other than delighting in the mess, and bleating that the Prime Minister is "playing the gender card" to get out of trouble, it seems our Chief of Army, Lieutenant General David Morrison, AO, sees things much more clearly. Please watch this video. It shouldn't need to be said, but it does, and he says it SO DAMN WELL.

Our new feminist hero!

I was just thinking about this again while I made a cup of tea - how pathetically grateful I am to General Morrison for this. After this disgraceful week, and how so many men in the public eye have failed us and shamed us all so egregiously, here is one man drawing a line in the sand and daring everyone else to defy him.

We need this message to be taken up at every level of public (and private) life - be a decent human being or go away. Alongside the notions of the Fair Go and Mateship, I propose Morrison's Rule as an ideology Australia should strive to live by. :)
I know exactly what you mean. When I saw this on the news this morning, it was so powerful! I got quite choked up, which speaks volumes about the sort of message we normally get from the media.

Morrison's Rule! I like it. It's a damn fine rule. And one that is easier to follow than people like to make out.
